Stoke WGUK Contest
Report
After the 'dress rehearsal' of the previous week
the Senior and Junior Guards made the long journey to first 2002 WGUK
Contest being held in Stoke On Trent on Sunday 13th January.
A big entry of 12 in the Junior Class and, as is
normal at this time of year, it was anyone's class. The 13 members
really put on a top form performance with their 'Stars' presentation
and were rewarded with 2nd place behind last years Junior Class
runners up. Well done to to all the members and staff for an
excellent start.
All nine Open Class Guards were in competition
and would the last 3 months efforts actually work? Well...... to
make life difficult, about quarter of the way through the performance
the sound system decided that it would give up and a massive well done
as the girls struggled along for at least another minute (singing at
some points!!) as the sound spluttered in and out and then finally
stopped. After the upheaval of resetting the floors the 14 girls
put on a 1st class performance (although the sound was still very
poor) and being placed 3rd was a perfect start to the season.
The Rugrats start on their 2002 campaign next
week at the Southern Knights sponsored contest and Burgess Hill while
both the Juniors and Seniors will try ensure they keep the pressure
on.
